Neighborhood Façade Program
Waterbury Development Corporation (WDC) acting on behalf of the City of Waterbury and Main Street Waterbury announce the next phase of the Neighborhood Façade Program funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.
The Downtown Façade Program is designed to encourage exterior building improvements that address the appearance and condition of commercial, retail, and mixed use buildings in our Waterbury downtown neighborhood. The program also aims to promote economic prosperity while preserving our downtown neighborhood’s unique character and historic roots. These grants are competitive and funds are available in the form of forgivable no-interest loans for up to $48,000 per façade.
In addition, a Sign and Awning program is also being introduced. This program, from the same funding source, will target those building owners that may not require full façade renovation but just have need for updated storefront signage and awnings. The forgivable loan amount for this program is $1900.
The WDC is also introducing a Neighborhood Façade Program for the Brooklyn Neighborhood which is designated as a “Target Neighborhood” in the City’s 2008-2013 Consolidated Plan. These grants are also competitive and funds are available in the form of forgivable no-interest loans for up to $30,000 per façade.
Applications for all three programs are available via the links above. BL Companies, the selected Architectural firm working with WDC on this program will hold an informational workshop for all interested building owners on April 27, 2011 from 4-7PM at the WDC offices on 24 Leavenworth Street.
All applications will be reviewed and graded by a Design panel consisting of WDC and Main Street Waterbury personnel. Applicants will be awarded funds based on eligibility, established criteria, and no outstanding obligations to the City of Waterbury.
All applications will be due into the WDC offices no later than May 4, 2011 with grant announcements by June 1, 2011.
