City of Waterbury, CT

Waterbury, the fifth largest city in Connecticut, is home to 109,154 residents of diverse ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds (demographics). Conveniently located at the junction of route 8 and interstate 84, the city was once known as the "Brass City" because of its long history as the center of the nation's brass industry. Today, Waterbury is known for its advanced technology capabilities, historic architecture and facades, and most importantly, its strong communities and neighborhoods!

In the last five years, the City of Waterbury has undergone a number of significant renovations that are collectively being called the early stages of a "Waterbury Renaissance". In 1997, the Brass Mills Regional Shopping Mall opened with over 150 stores and a 12-screen cinema. In 2000, a brand new Government Center was constructed. In 2001, the grand opening of the Timexpo Museum marked the completion of the Brass Mills Center and Commons site development. In 2003 U.S. News and World Reports’ #1 New England public university, the University of Connecticut, established a brand new campus in the center of downtown. In 2004 the historic Palace Theater reopened its doors for Broadway plays, musicals, concerts, comedy shows and local performances, presenting such artists as Tony Bennett, B.B. King, The Temptations and Bill Cosby. In 2005, $200,000 of federal funding was granted for preservation of the historic Waterbury City Hall. The city is also planning to undertake a $101.5M school construction project, which will furnish three new elementary schools as well as additions and expansions to our three high schools. These, among countless other projects, have marked the beginning of the revitalization of Waterbury as a center for industry and commerce.

In addition to its rapid economic growth, Waterbury boasts some of the most affordable and conveniently located housing in the state. Whether you're looking to settle down in the heart of the city or in the quiet of suburbia, the city of Waterbury can match your needs. What's more, with I-84 and Rt.8 right in town, you'll be less than an hour away from nearly everywhere in Connecticut, and centrally located between Boston, New York and Providence. In Waterbury, you can benefit from the convenient proximity of the eastern seaboard while enjoying the unrivaled charm of New England in a mid-sized city with a small town atmosphere.
