WILLOW/WEST MAIN STREET CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENTS
The Willow/West Main Street improvements are the result of strong public advocacy and a pressing need for physical improvement to the area. In response, the Waterbury Neighborhood Housing Services commissioned a study by Abeles Phillips Preiss & Shapiro, Inc. of New York City, who worked with community, business and government leaders in examining all aspects of the project. Phase 1 of the resulting plan included streetscape improvements along Willow Street, between the intersections of Willow/West Main Street and Willow/Grove Street. Said improvements consisted of new curbing and sidewalks, improved drainage, plantings, benches, decorative lighting and other amenities. BL Companies of Meriden, Connecticut designed the project and Guerrera Construction of Oxford, Connecticut completed the work in the fall of 2003.
